EU: Waiting for Eurogroup to Cut Greece's Gordian Knot

It is expected that a special Eurogroup meeting of euro zone finance ministers could be held on Tuesday to discuss Greece's reform package as agreed at the EU summit before the visit of Greece's Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Berlin. President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said on Wednesday that Tsipras had told him that Athens was "ready to present his reforms by the end of this week, beginning of next week” and the deadline was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Greek government.



However, the German government reported on Friday that it had no details about the requested document due to be presented by Monday, a spokeswoman for the German Finance Ministry Marianne Kothe told reporters.



"We have had no concrete information presented to us," she said.



According to sources from Athens, reforms will contain many of the government’s election promises combined with plans that should satisfy demands by the debt-laden country's international creditors, according to Athens.



Although Greece is expected to submit the list by Monday, details about the proposals remain rather sketchy.



“The plan contains some basic reforms whose aim is to allow Greek society to have some breathing space within the framework of the kind of policies that we want to implement over the next 2.5 months, until June,” Tsipras's government spokesman Gavriil Sakellaridis has told Greek Vima FM radio.



He insisted that there are no plans that would “affect Greeks’ incomes” although the government wants to make tax collections fairer and more effective. Sakellaridis ruled out raising the retirement age to 67. The administration wants to indroduce measures aimed at improving business environment, an extension of a property tax as well as labor, pension and VAT changes.



Even so, Greece has to include some fiscal measures,
