Bloomberg terminal goes down, traders get up to fun

Bloomberg terminals around the world are down worldwide Friday morning. So what are traders doing with their unexpected bonus of free time?

Going by Twitter, quite a few of them aren’t spending it on improving pursuits. Instead, they’re updating Facebook, connecting with long lost friends or even watching the new “Star Wars” trailer.

Check out some of their ideas on what to do instead of tracking the markets.

The Bloomberg Professional service — the terminal has more than 315,000 subscribers worldwide — is considered by many traders a key tool for analyzing data and executing trades. The outage began at around 3:20 a.m. Eastern Time, and was still continuing an hour later, though some were reporting on social media that the service was back for them.

In any case, the lack of access sparked a wave of complaints — and jokes — on Twitter under the hashtag #Bloombergdown. Some came up with ways to perform financial tasks while the terminal was dead.
